Vuelo — 1950s Art Nouveau-Style Winged Nymph Jardinière with Glass Insert (16.5")

A sculptural centerpiece from the 1950s. Vuelo is a jardinière inspired by European Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) design: two three-dimensional winged female figures — nymphs in the manner of caryatids — rise from an organic, flowing base to hold a thick clear glass insert. Hair, faces, wings and ornament are finely finished, and small differences in the lower decorative elements show the hand of the maker.

The heavy, non-magnetic base is most likely a copper-based alloy (brass or bronze). Its antique bronze-style patina darkens in the recesses and catches warm metallic highlights on the raised detail. The glass insert has a carefully finished rim and natural optical waves in the glass, typical of traditionally made pieces.

Use it for flowers, as a dining table centerpiece, on a console or mantel, or with ice as a champagne or wine cooler.
